Sylvia Robinson, piano instructor at MACSA, has had an active and varied career in music education. She holds a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Arts from the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas. She is a certified Texas teacher in Special Education and Music. She is a retired music teacher from San Antonio Independent School District.
Among her professional accomplishments, Mrs. Robinson re-established the Mariachi group as part of the curriculum at Highlands High School in San Antonio in the early 1990’s. This group went on to win mariachi competitions at the city and national level. An active performance group, they performed for many public figures including Governor Ann Richards and Presidents Clinton and Bush. They were also featured on the Today Show, at the grand opening of the Alamodome, and at various sports and Fiesta events.
From 1995-2008, Mrs. Robinson was the Choir Director at Highlands High School. She had students who qualified for All-Region Choir and for Area Audition, were 1st Division winners at UIL Solo-Ensemble, and went on to major in music at OLLU. From 2000-2012, Mrs. Robinson developed and taught the Class Piano program at Highlands High School. Her students were 1st Division Winners for UIL Solo-Ensemble, qualified for State Solo-Ensemble, and went on to major in music at OLLU, Texas A & M Kingsville, and San Antonio College.
