Rachel Hicks earned her Bachelor of Arts in dramatic art, Bachelor of Music, and K-12 music teaching license from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In addition, she earned a Master of Music in Vocal Performance and Vocal Pedagogy from the University of Texas at San Antonio. While pursuing these degrees, she performed roles in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Ned Rorem’s Fables, Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado, and Seymour Barab’s The Pied Piper of Hamelin. Most recently, she made her debut into the professional opera business by performing in Opera Piccola’s production of Mozart’s Abduction from the Seraglio as Star Trek. Rachel looks forward to continuing her growth as a performer in the future.
While pursuing her Master’s degree, Rachel worked with the UTSA Opera on the Run program where she coordinated performers and taught elementary students the movement necessary for the production. She also sang alongside many of those students in the show The Pied Piper of Hamelin.
For the past school year, Rachel has taught private voice lessons in Comal ISD. Many of her students auditioned for the Texas All State Choir Auditions. Several got into Regional choir and two students were alternates in the All State choir. In addition, many of her students auditioned for the University Interscholastic League solo and ensemble auditions. As a teacher, Rachel encourages her students to perform at every opportunity so that they can improve those skills needed for the stage. Rachel believes the best part about teaching is instilling a passion for music and learning from the creative minds of her students. She enjoys working with all ages including 3 to adult.
