A native Texan, Peter Steigerwald began studying piano at age 6 and started lessons with MACSA founder Kenneth Thompson the year MACSA opened in 1999. Peter quickly discovered his passion for music and participated in many contests and performances throughout his pre-collegiate years. In addition to many other awards, Peter won first prize in the Texas Music Teachers Association’s solo division and he received the MACSA Artist Award.

Peter attended the University of Houston and graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2009 with a Bachelor of Music in piano performance, studying with Nancy Weems. Throughout this time, Peter became progressively more involved in teaching piano, and soon decided that he wanted to be more of a teacher who also performs instead of a full-time performer.

In 2009, Peter married his wife Sara after they both graduated from U of H, and they moved to the San Marcos area. Peter began teaching at MACSA while attending the University of Texas at Austin to continue his musical education. In 2010, he completed his Masters in Piano Performance at UT while studying with the piano department head Anton Nel.

Peter’s passion for teaching remains a key element in his musical endeavors. He also continues to perform, especially in collaboration with a wide variety of instrumentalists and singers. Peter regularly plays for church services and enjoys playing jazz with friends. Sharing the joys of music withothers, whether through performing or teaching, remains the current focus and continuing ambition for Peter in his career.
