Izzy Anderson graduated from the University of Texas- San Antonio in May 2013 with her masters in Piano Performance and Piano Pedagogy. During her degree she wrote a paper focusing on adaptive approaches to teaching students with dyslexia. The paper was inspired by a MACSA student in her studio. She hopes to continue researching techniques for dyslexia and any other needs of the students in her studio. She is originally from Springfield, Missouri where she graduated from Missouri State University in 2011 with a BM in Piano Performance. She has studied with Dr. Kasandra Keeling, Dr. Courtney Crappell, Dr. Hye Jung Hong and Dr. Gregory Morris.
Izzy has taught piano for over ten years and absolutely loves teaching. Izzy’s goal for her piano lessons is for the student to have fun while learning. She has the ability to teach all types of music, taking the time to learn what type of music a student enjoys and works hard to find just the right piece for her students to play. She teaches all ages of students. Although she has the most teaching experience with beginners, Izzy enjoys teaching all skill levels. She works hard to develop a relationship with the student and family.
Izzy is a member of San Antonio Music Teachers Association and The National Guild. Her students are encouraged to participate in the TMTA Theory Test, SAMTA Achievement Auditions, and Guild. She challenges her students with many other activities to keep them learning and growing as musicians. Many have performed at their school’s talent shows.
Izzy is working with a non-profit called Grow with the Arts. As a volunteer and board member, she is helping get “The Arts” back into the schools. She is featured as both a piano teacher, performer, and as a visual artist. She is very excited to get involved with the schools and community to help spread both music and art. Izzy was the artist-in-residence for 2013-2014 at a nearby elementary school, volunteering at school activities and the school’s art club.
As an accomplished artist, Izzy recently won People’s Choice Award at the InspireD Gala Juried Art Show in 2015 for her painting “Prescription for Pain.” She has had artwork displayed at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts. www.IzzysArt.com for further information about her art.
Testimonials for Ms. Anderson
We came to Izzy Anderson when our piano teacher found a new teaching job.
Izzy Anderson has been a delight to work with as we have watched our daughter grow in musicianship and enjoyment of the piano over the past year and a half.
Izzy uses the latest and greatest technology (texts, digital lesson plans, email, etc.) to keep up with parents’ and students’ busy lives, so we are always on the same page as far as lessons, recitals and other events are concerned. She has been a friend and encourager as well as a teacher, and it has been a privilege to get to know her. Oh, and don’t forget to check out her original artwork on the walls of MACSA Stone Oak!
Izzy Anderson is a phenomenal teacher.
